Pre-arraignment Interview

Pre-arraignment Interview

If the defendant has not obtained counsel, a pre-arraignment
interview is held within 21 days after indictment. At this
interview, defense representation is confirmed, discovery7 is
available, and the Uniform Defendant Intake Form is
completed. If the defendant has not obtained private counsel,
an application for public defender eligibility is completed. If
the defendant has not previously applied for the Pretrial
Intervention Program, and asks to do so, an application must be
completed. A judge is assigned and the defendant is notified of
the date for the arraignment/status conference. The purpose of
the pre-arraignment interview is to ensure that routine matters,
which should not take up the court
